Saint archdeacon Stephen is the first martyr of Christianity. He was preaching to his comrades in Jerusaleme about the Spirit that inspires the Church is above their legal ordinances. He was falsely accused and stoned. The legend sais that the Church growed out of the blood of the christian martyrs. What is the true sense of the martyrdom, the suffering and horrible way of testifying on one's belief in God – the question which can be answered by martyr Stephen first of all and all others who were capable, throughout the history, to suffer the greatest sacrifice – to give even their life for Christ and others.
